Edinburgh New Town

Our next portfolio spotlight takes us to Edinburgh New Town and this beautiful Georgian property. Our Belgian client wanted to meld their European aesthetic with the heritage of the building in this north facing kitchen and we were tasked with maximising this incredible space to its fullest potential.
The bulthaup b3 was the foundation of realising this unique brief, and allowed us to design a kitchen showing the best of what bulthaup has to offer. The b3 creates the perfect balance between form and function.
The b3 range in gravel laser edged laminate base units with specialist sand beige aluminium was perfect on the walls. Combining these units with beautiful textured oak veneer on the tall fridge and oven housings creates a calm mood. Recessing these tall units into the wall allowed for excellent storage potential along with maximum space in the kitchen area. Silestone work surfaces are the perfect compliment to the neutral tones and calming palette.
We opted for the iconic b2 workbench, designed by bulthaup & EOOS as its architectural & sculptural aesthetic made it an ideal choice for this European sensibility. The slim proportions & open-ness of the leg frame allows a large island to be utilised. b3’s precisely engineered functionality works simply and perfectly. This freedom of design continues right down to the finest kitchen detail, allowing for a variety of additional kitchen accessories, created with functionality and creativity in mind. We selected the b3 cookbook stand, planters and even a built-in bread board and added to the storage potential with a knife rack on the work bench, utilising storage hooks for pots and cooking utensils.
We built the design to fit comfortably around the AGA, not least adding painted glass behind to ensure light is refracted around the room to add to the sensation of openness and space. The reformed chimney breast was repurposed to accommodate both gas and AGA options and a hidden panel concealed the functional aspects. The combination of steel for practical use between the sink & AGA on opposing walls, with solid oak wood at the breakfast bar at the dining end was the perfect alliances of textures and tones, and the beautiful ANTA lights above the island created a functional & warm environment to cook & relax while entertaining.
Appliances, outwith the AGA, were supplied by Siemens, their innovative technology and exceptional design combining perfectly to blend seamlessly with the desired aesthetic. A Quooker boiling water tap is a must-have in any busy kitchen and adds convenience and functionality to daily life.
The purpose of this design was to create subtle layers of both the European aesthetic of our client and the Edwardian heritage inherent in the building. Using seamless bulthaup kitchen innovation with a classical palette and warm tones, we have custom tailored this kitchen to create a light filled, open living space with entertaining at its heart.
