An Engineer’s Dream

This behind-the-scenes blog illustrates a recent project that was a delight to design, with an abundance of custom touches of elegant detail to appeal to a client with a passion for bulthaup engineering.

We were approached by our client, on the recommendation of his son who purchased a bulthaup kitchen from us previously and had experienced its exceptional quality.  A perspective he had shared with his father, who like his son is a stickler for detail.  Despite searching, he found no other product that could offer the same attention to detail he aspired to for his own bespoke new build home.

The design brief was for an open plan kitchen to flow seamlessly into a living and dining area within the family home, which our client shares with his partner and precious little dog.

Considering the open plan layout, a subtle yet luxurious colour palette was selected. We used alpine white laminate with laser edge as the main finish, chosen for its warm classic shade of white with no blue undertones and for its high resistance to stains and scratches, this was partnered with the soft sheen of an ultra-modern sand beige aluminium finish on tall units, wall panels and as surprise contrast on the handleless rail on the island drawers. This elegant combination emanates a warm glow, changing in tone throughout the day and evening in response to changing levels of light.

Use of the impressive 10mm ultra slim bulthaup laminate worktop in alpine white to match the island door finish, gives the island the striking appearance of a seamless monoblock piece.  Manufactured with an integrated bulthaup stainless steel sink and a BORA flush installation cooktop with integrated extractor so these items almost disappear from sight. We extended the same work surface finish to the breakfast bar, designing a change in worktop thickness to create a dedicated seating area designed with relaxing with a glass of wine in mind!

A coffee and wine station was strategically positioned near to the breakfast bar area for convenience, housing wine glasses, mugs and any requirements for your preferred beverage preparation!  An integrated Miele coffee machine and wine conditioning appliance are a treat to use.  We selected wall hung units and the use of sand beige aluminium wall panels to create a furniture like dresser appearance to this area. Use of bulthaup swivel lamps mounted on the wall panels create both task and ambient lighting.

As a keen cook, our client had high expectations for the quality and functionality of the appliances to meet his exacting requirements. Following a fun, informative cookery event in our studio, Miele appliances were selected for their quality and efficiency for real cooking and he is delighted to report he is extremely happy with his choices for both the kitchen and separate utility room we completed.

Appliances that would not detract from the subtle appearance of the kitchen furniture, open plan living or view to the garden were essential. Use of the revolutionary BORA cooktop with integrated extractor allowed us to incorporate highly effective ventilation within the bulthaup kitchen island, avoiding the need for overhead extraction which would have created a visible obstruction in the heart of the kitchen and a distraction from the views and flow in the room.

A Quooker all in one boiling water tap is a go-to for any high functioning kitchen design and was a must for this project.  Positioned with a bulthaup integrated steel sink with drainer and housed within a niche created between the tall units, this work area is semi concealed from the dining area to keep any dirty pots out of view while enjoying dinner. A complimentary Quooker mixer tap at the island prep sink allows for a cohesion of finish and style.

The client chose a bulthaup C2 dining table which is a true item of beauty.  A perfect example of engineering expertise and laminate hand craftmanship to produce a table with the appearance of a seamless and joint less ‘one piece’ end result.

The kitchen layout was designedwith careful consideration to the architecture of the space to ensure balance. The sleek lines of the bulthaup b3 kitchen and layout compliment the architectural shapes of the room and the finishes selected come alive with the abundance of natural daylight which flows in through the rooflights and wall of glass to the garden. Come evening, the finishes are complimented by the lighting design to beautiful effect.

Subtle, elegant with beautifully designed attention to detail, reflecting a bulthaup by Cameron Interiors creative response to the client’s design brief.
